My Way is not God’s Way

Do you know where you are going when life here is over?

It is the question nobody really wants to ask but we all really need to know the answer. I recently watched the movie, “American Sniper”, the story about U.S. Navy Seal Sniper Chris Kyle’s life. It dawned on me that as he was doing his required duty, with every trigger pull he sent someone to hell. I cannot at this point in my life imagine carrying that weight. 25 years ago that was the path my life was on. By the grace of God my shoulder was torn up and I had to leave the military. I was angry then. but looking back I am thankful that I was never put in that position in my own life.

My point here is that it put me into deep thought mode. I really started to think about all those lost souls out there. As Christians, we want to share our faith and the fact that Jesus is the only way to eternal life.

“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.John 14:6 KJV

I accept that as an undeniable truth. I no longer argue the point. I used to have many views about things and took it upon myself to make excuses for God because I couldn’t explain things for myself. For the record, God doesn’t need our help explaining Himself. This is, after all, His creation not ours.

This is the point when we run into problems with sharing and witnessing. I can’t stress it enough. People that stand in opposition to our faith usually come up with the line like “how do you know your way is the only way?” Which, in and of itself, is an excellent question. How do we know “our”way is the only way? After all, we are fallible, messed up sinners. Could we be wrong? We could absolutely be wrong and “our” way may not be THE WAY.

Now before the church folk start banging at my door to string me up, let’s look at what I said: I said “OUR” way.

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.” Isaiah 55:8 KJV

You see, it Is HIS WAY. God has laid out His plan and we only need to surrender to it. It is not my way that I share or follow. My way is corrupt and filthy, riddled with sin and self deception. It cannot lead to anything good! God’s ways are clean and pure. They are higher than we can attain on our own. So high, in fact, He needs to lift us up that we may reach him. He did that by lowering himself and submitting to the cross.

“For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:9 KJV

Do you see my point here?

You see, we cannot even fully comprehend His ways. We can seek to know His ways. It starts with “THE BOOK”. I’m not even going to entertain any arguments on this one.

It is God’s book and if you seek His truth you will find it in there. I am sick and tired of seeing people I know slip through the gates of HELL because they don’t want to accept the truth that is in front of them. That blessed, Holy masterpiece is the Only Holy Book. There are other religious books out there but none of them can be validated both by itself and by external historical writings.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.”John 1:1-3 KJV - In this passage, John is describing Jesus Christ as the living word of God!

Can we know it all? Not while here on the earth. Things will become much more clear when we meet face to face with our maker. But YOU need to arrange the meeting with him!

It’s pretty simple: you need to recognize that your way is wrong and that there is sin in your life. You need to approach God with a humble spirit knowing that you cannot rid yourself of those things without His power. You need to recognize that Christ did all the work for you, because you could not do it for yourself. Then, turn to Christ and with all of your being accept His gift of salvation and ask Him to create in you a new person, filled with His Holy Spirit. It all starts there.

Then, the work begins.

What work? Now that you are renewed in spirit you will desire to follow His will in your life. It’s not going to be easy. I know because I used to be one of those guys that made it hard for Christians to be Christ-like in all they do.

In spite of that, we need to grow and learn and share. This comes about as we study scripture. Pray, because it brings peace and clarity. Your “New” Father, the one in Heaven, wants to hear from you. He did go to a lot of trouble to make it possible to know Him in a personal and direct way.

Here is the next issue: we are renewed and changed spiritually. But, that does not make us perfect. Christ is perfect. We have the privilege of riding on His coat tails into eternity. That which He put inside of us is perfect. Yet we still walk in the flesh. We still make mistakes and say and do wrong things. That’s not Gods fault. It’s ours because…..“ thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:8-9 KJV

So, my friends that do not know Christ in a personal way: remember when someone wants to share Him with you they are doing it because they do not want to see you perish for eternity. They love you enough to have you hate them if that’s what it takes to get through to you.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.John 3:16 KJV
