Ministry for God….Ministry With God
By Bill Ehlers on January 13, 2019
John 15:1-5. Competence, or even giftedness, in any kind of ministry (pastoring, preaching, eldering, worship leading, music, teaching, working with children, working with the facility, working in hospitality/ushering/food service, evangelism, visitation . . . you name it), may allow a person to bear a certain amount of fruit, but competence in itself will not lead to lasting fruit for God's Kingdom, and can lead to pride, conflicts, burnout, and will eventually require "pruning" by God. To bear "much" and lasting fruit, our service must be done with God. That requires a close connection to God (abiding as a branch in a vine), manifested by humility and dependence upon God.
