To be IN a church without GOING out and proclaiming the Good News of Jesus means we're not really being The Church of Jesus Christ. Symbols mean something. It is good for us to know what they mean and how they apply to our lives. Baptism is a symbol. Baptism, in and of itself, is not special, but the truth it symbolizes is very powerful. It represents Jesus' work to save us from our sins. We proclaim Jesus through baptism.
