One of our Abundant Life elders, John Almas, is leading us through a series of prayers. Prayer is our act of submission to and faith in a good, loving God.
Here is this week’s prayer:
Our LORD, Almighty God, The Great I Am,
You have been warning us and warning us. Are we listening? We don’t like to hear of impending judgment. Its easier to write warnings off as conspiracy theories or extreme interpretations of Scripture.
When, oh when will we take You seriously? For so long we’ve been trying to live with our hearts in the world and in You at the same time. But no man can serve 2 masters.
You said of Israel one time that this people honour me with their lips but their heart is far from me. Far too often that is true of me. “And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength”
Help us LORD to humble ourselves, and pray, and seek Your face, and turn from our wicked ways. You call us, your people to do this. As we do we may have some moral authority to call the world to repentance.
Then help us LORD to show the world that we are different in our response to the current tsunami of fear that is washing over the world. Let us be filled with and ruled by Your Spirit, not mob mentality, not peer pressure, not fear.
As the world looks for a scapegoat, someone to blame for our suffering and failed remedies, let us be humble and wiser than that. You, after all, are Almighty and in ultimate control. Could it be that You are using things and people, which are evil, to call us to repentance?
Lord, I come to You and confess that my heart is really too attached to myself and this world. I find myself unable and honestly unwilling to change that. So I ask You to do it in me, in us. If brokenness is what we need, then let it be.
May I be like Job:
“I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear,
But now my eye sees You.
Therefore I abhor myself,
And repent in dust and ashes.”
In Jesus’ name we pray…
