Thank you Father for putting this thought in my mind, “… none can stay His hand…”

And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou? (Daniel 4:35)

Nebuchadnezzar came to his senses. He saw that You alone are God. You do not share Your glory. Lord I believe You are Sovereign (all knowing, all powerful). You know all about covid, who or what started it, what the evil agendas may be, and so on.

We have become rattled and fearful. We have found that though we say the words, “I trust You will all my heart”, we have been actually putting a lot of our trust in government, health care, pharmacy, our jobs, etc. These crutches have been falling like dominoes.

Maybe they need to.

As nations we have become proud and independent of You. We have been doing unspeakable evil around the world and even to our own children. If not for Your mercy You could have wiped us out long ago, and I include myself in that number. But now…now we are being humbled. We can’t stop this virus. Lock downs are not working. Vaccines are not working. Government can’t fix it We are getting divided, angry, and so tired. We look for someone or something to blame it all on.

I pray we can look in the mirror. But immediately I argue, it’s not me! We need to admit we are all complicit in some way. How about all the idols I have that are stealing the affection You deserve?

Nehemiah owned his sin along with his nation in Nehemiah 1:6:

“Let thine ear now be attentive, and thine eyes open, that thou mayest hear the prayer of thy servant, which I pray before thee now, day and night, for the children of Israel thy servants, and confess the sins of the children of Israel, which we have sinned against thee: both I and my father’s house have sinned.”

Lord have mercy on us. I pray our nation will repent. But even so I repent, we repent. Please show us how. We don’t cry out for relief, we cry out for righteousness. We don’t cry out for health, we cry out for holiness. We don’t cry out for comfort, we cry out for courage. We don’t cry out for success, we cry out to learn to serve As much as it hurts Lord please continue taking the idols out of my heart.

Let us be broken vessels that let Your light shine out to those who will yet see in these last days

Looking to You, Lord Jesus
