So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. (Ephesians 4:11-13 NIV)

God has set us up in Jesus to be part of his purpose and plan. This purpose and plan is not only for us as individuals, but also as an entire church family.

Within this church family Jesus Christ has set up certain people with certain gifts to accomplish his purpose. This purpose, ultimately, is to become fully mature. Being fully mature is to attain to the whole measure of the fullness of Jesus Christ. In other words, to be like Jesus.

Each follower of Jesus has one of these five giftings. Each one of us is one of these people. In fact, if we look at ourselves, we can see a little bit of each one in us. From there, you can see one of these giftings rise to the top.

What is the job we are doing? Training one another to do good works in Jesus’ name. By intentionally growing and developing, Christians will become mature individually and as congregations and groups.

Are you following the gifting that Jesus has set up in you?
